I have been rock climbing for a number of years, but apart from a couple of climbing excursions in the Czech Republic, this was my first taste of ‘real’ rock climbing and mountaineering! In late 2007, my climbing partner mentioned that he would love to try some Via Ferrata routes in the Dolomites, and that we should look into booking a trip there with a guide in the coming year. I have to confess that it was the first time I had ever heard of the name Via Ferrata! So, after a quick bit of research, my appitite was well and truly whetted by the amount of breath-taking photos of the Dolomite Mountains there are to be found on the internet. It didn’t take me long to make up my mind about taking the trip, so I contacted my climbing partner and then left the arrangements in his capable hands. Six months later, with our climbing shoes and harnesses packed, we were on our way……….
